“Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from there?” (John 1:46)
I really dislike where I live. Not my house, my whole city. I feel as if my career could never go forward (even though I work in an amazing company) and I could never be a well-known professional in my area because, like the verse says, nothing good can come from there…
Some call my town Fort Misery, and at second place in foreclosures in the entire country, feels like there’s a gray cloud of sadness just hanging above those of us who resiliently stayed. Life goes on but real estate has become a dirty word that is frowned upon when pronounced.
I am learning the hard way that is just a mindset. No matter where I am, happiness comes from within. Moving 100 or 1000 miles away will not improve my chances of success or improve my happiness.
Actually the place I live is a wonderful place. If you are in the loop, there’s art, culture, schools, low crime rate, higher quality of life in general compared to bigger cities. And most important of all, my family is here.
I have to believe God is in control when I have panic attacks desiring terribly to move… I have to believe he has brought me here for a reason, a wonderful reason and that he will open doors if and when it’s time to go. He is the only reason we all resiliently stayed.
And sooner or later, we will see and understand the purpose of all that is now and all around us and mature towards a more fulfilled existence regardless of our geographical location.0
