I have a great little helper and have decided to do a veggie patch addition to our country this year. We found some great corner bricks on home depot for about $2.50 ea, which made this addition very cheap, we did 2 garden beds 8×4 for about $50 bucks!!
The best potting soil (veggie organic soil?) I have bought was this green organic bag at walmart, priced at roughly $8/ea, I think I used about 3 bags mixed with some other dirt I had.
The veggies are doing great!!! Of course now it’s winter so we have no bugs, somebody told me about mint oil to keep away the bugs. So I had some original listerine laying around I made a mix of listerine and water in an spray bottle and have been using that on the few occasions I have found bugs. I think planting the onions and herbs around also helps.
This is the first one I have setup, I got from home depot:
- Tomatoes > Cherry & Normal
- Romaine
- Butter lettuce
- Mustard
- Parsley
- Cilantro
- Green onions (replanted from store herbs)
From some friends I got:
- Collard greens
- Cabbage
- Some other questionable herbs
- Sugar cane (which gets big and will not go on
I know it’s early to avail what will last thru or exist in summer – Florida is so tough with its scorching sun!! So we’ll see then…
