Stain over Paint Stressing Texture

We purchased a beautiful Magnolia homes inspired, farmhouse chic style dining table when we first moved to our Florida home and matched our spacing perfectly. Except it was so crappy 🙄started scratching so easily and we did get much use of it, and it has now been five long and hard years with two toddlers and many spills later.
Looks awful and I don’t want to replace it! The toddlers are still cohabitating in this environment, and while they are adorbs, they destroy everything in sight.

Here’s a quick list of replacing cons…. Our toddlers will destroy new tables also…. Costs money… creates more pollution and junk in the environment.

So I braced to get yelled by my husband, who hates everything I paint, and got to work a gloomy morning in September. Here’s how scratched this table was!

Some light sanding in a well ventilated area, 180 grit and then deep cleaning with denatured alcohol first. After cleaning throughout, I sprayed painted a gray base with slate gray can.
